bobCast 32 The What's Happening Podcast

It has been a while since the last bobCast, and I wanted to bring folks up-to-date on the podcast scene here at Broward Community College.

Since the last bobCast on August 16th the Department of Instructional Technology here at Broward Community College has held two podcast workshops. One for Beginning podcasters and one for the Intermediate. Our last workshop had a full house and several people had to be asked to wait until next semester. If you missed the workshop or were not able to sign up, we are planning to offer all four of the workshops again next semester.

In September, I was able to attend the Podcast and New Media Expo held this year in Ontarino, California. Several people who have been successful in the New Media business (as podcasting is known in professional circles)were on hand and one of these was a young man was Hayden Black. What makes Hayden Back stand out is he is very good at what he does and he is a Broward Community College graduate who attended Central Campus in the late 1980's.
If you would like to check out Hayden's latest production you can do so at http://www.goodnightburbank.com .

One other high point of the conference was a young couple (Eric and Cat Susch ) who produce a kitting podcast called "Lets Knit 2 gather". While there are many podcasts about knitting, I was impressed with the professional level of their show. They even gave a workshop on producing a quality video podcast, and they were right on target. Not only do they shoot their own video but they write the script, rehearse and do their own scenery and lighting and Cat knits her own costumes. You don't have to take my word for it just check out the podcast at http://www.letsknit2gether.com .
The bobCast has also started a video section for all those videos that get made and need a place to be shown. The videos can be found in two places. The first of these is http://bccmovies.blogspot.com and by going to the second at http://www.thebobcast.com and click on the videos tab.

The bobCast has a new home on South Campus. It is a part of the South Campus Student Broadcast project funded last year by SPD. We are trying to introduce students to podcasting by training them to "broadcast their ideas to the world using podcast technology. So far we have produced several videos and a bi-weekly production of the college newspaper, The Observer called the "Ob-cast". Members of The Observer staff read and discusses the top stories and the feature editorials. The Obcast is produced about a week after the paper comes out every other Friday.

Itunes University known as itunesU will soon come on line here at BCC and as we stated in an eariler podcast this will give us an additional 500 giga-bytes of storage and a new platform from which to reach the world through podcasting.

Music for this podcast was furnished by blues artist Cheryl Arena. You can check her out and purchase her music from her website at http://www.cherylarena.com .
