bobCast # 34 The Shouan Pan Podcast

Click here to heard bobCast #34

A few days a go Dr. Patrick Ellingham and I spent some time with Dr. Shouan Pan and spoke with him about his new appointment as President of Mesa Community College, his background in education, his experiences as a Chinese -American and his future plans. We are in the process of making a video podcast of the interview which will be out in a few days. But I wanted to share some of the interview with in the form of an audio podcast while Dr. Pan is still among us. He is scheduled to take his new position as of the first of February.
Of all the things he spoke about, I was most impressed with his story of growing up in China during the time of the Cultural Revolution, and how it affected not only his boyhood but the impact it have on his family. Many of the liberties that we as Americans take for granite Dr. Pan was not afforded while growing up. In the selected segment taken form the interview he relates some of his experiences to us.

We wish Dr. Pan well in his future adventures, and hope he will keep us in his heart as we will keep him in ours.

bobCast 31 the Opening Day Podcast

Every year Broward Community College in Ft. Lauderdale conducts a Opening Day event called "The Marketplace". This year's event took place on the North Campus of Broward Community College on August 16, 2007, and provided those in attendance information about some of the projects that people at the college have developed to aid their colleagues in improving their experience whether in the classroom or the office setting. This year several of these people shared their information with me and I video taped them for the bobCast. I hope you enjoy this video bobCast #31.

Podcast #28 PDD at BCC

Click Here to Listen to the bobCast

Podcasting has become a part of the distance learning program at Broward Community College in FT. Lauderdale, Florida. On Friday the second of February David Shulman and I presented a workshop presentation at the College's Professional Development Day entitled "Becoming a Podcast Professional at BCC". Professional Development Day is a day of workshops and activities designed to help the staff and faculty of the college sharpen their skills and knowledge in many different areas. We were honored to be included in the line up. As a service to those who missed the presention by attending other activities or for those who just could not get enough of podcasting the first time around we have included the entire workshop as a bobCast podcast. This podcast runs almost an hour in length but it includes all of the workshop from beginning to end.
In the workshop we show you what a podcast is, and discuss how podcasting fits into the world of education and even take a quick look at commerical podcasting. We cover podcatching software programs such as Apple's iTunes and explain RSS technology and show how this technology can be used to deliver information by "pushing" the data to the student. And a bonus, we show several examples of how other faculty at the college are using the technology and creating their own podcasts for use in their classes.

Showcased are:

Michael Minassian Eye on literature Podcast which can be located at:

Sharon Rifkin who's wellness podcast is located at:

Fred Searcy who is using podcasting to teach his students lab safety for his biology classes at:
